Savannah Chili Bowl II

November 21, 2007

Savannah Chili Bowl II to âHelp Save One of Our Ownâ

A chili cook-off and a concert by the band Liquid Ginger will highlight the second annual Savannah Chili Bowl II on Saturday, December 1, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Forsyth Park in downtown Savannah. Initiated by the âHelp Save One of Our Ownâ non-profit group, the Chili Bowl II is a fund-raiser to assist a Savannah family with massive medical bills.
This is the second year local singer Ginger Fawcett and her band, Liquid Ginger, have helped sponsor the event to assist a local family. In addition to the chili competition among some of Savannahâs best restaurants, the event will also include a flag football tournament; live entertainment by Liquid Ginger and other artists; and childrenâs activities.
The beneficiary of this yearâs event is Savannahian David Sisk, a 39-year old employee of JCB. Sisk and his wife, Mary, have two small children. He was recently diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension, a life threatening disease. He is being treated through the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, and faces long-term, expensive treatment and possibly major surgery.
The chili cook-off will include teams from Bahama Bobâs, Wild Wing, Jen and Friends, Shamrocks, Dawg House, North Beach Grill, Cafà Loco, Bamboo Room, Long Horn Steakhouse, Tubbyâs and Fiddlers.
In addition to Liquid Ginger, the live entertainment will include performances by Two Path Road, Hazard County, Epdmk, Tubby Love, Sing Savannah, Trick Kelly and Dancing Unlimited.
âHelp Save One of Our Ownâ is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

# # # #

A busy week as Mayor and on the campaign trail

* We had plenty of events to attend this week. Our events ranged from enjoyable Greek food festivals to another event that was very sorrowful; the funeral of one of our young men that was taken from us too early.

* Book recommendation:
http://www.qbq.com/
QBQ! The Question Behind the Question: Practicing Personal Accountability in Work and in Life

* Mark your calendar: Oct 30th there is a Mayoral forum at the newspaper office on Chathem Parkway.

* Early voting will take place the week of October 29th.
I am encouraging all of you to do that and to spread the word.

You can go the voter registration office at 117 Eisenhower Drive, Building E (when going east, past Waters Avenue). Find a day during that week because election day could be a very busy day for you.

Vote early!

Itâs an easy process, there will be no lines and you can get it done. Iâm hoping you can encourage your friends and relatives to do the same thing

Donât wait until the last minute and miss an opportunity to choose the leadership of this community for the next four years.

You have earned the right to vote, donât lose it!

Vote for Otis! A responsive, thoughtful and accountable leader!

Candidates met face to face at Savannah High School.

October 9
3 minutes 3 seconds
Today the candidates for Mayor of the city of Savannah met together for the first time face to face. The venue was Savannah High School. The political discussion was sponsored by a teacher that had the students ask their questions directly to the candidates.

Many students had questions regarding the relationship between the police and the community. Many students asked about issues of poverty.

This race is about leadership. My experience over the past four years gave me an edge today. The students heard rhetoric and promises, but when you look at the list of our accomplishments on http://otisformayor.com/accomplishment.htm and you will see past the hype.
Please look at the site and the accomplishments, and then consider leadership Savannah needs in the next four years.
Otis for Mayor!
I am the responsive, thoughtful, and accountable leader for Savannah.
